In 1980 the female group Sequence hit the charts thus paving the way for female rappers such as Roxanne Shante('84), Salt-n-Pepa ('85) MC Lyte ('87)and Queen Latifah ('89). However, it wasn't until '94 that a female rapper, Da Brat, achieved platinum status. Towards the end of the 1990's women rappers returned to the forefront of the Hip -Hop industry. Names like Little Kim ('96), Foxy Brown ('96), Queen Pin ('97), Mia X('98) and Lauryn Hill ('98) made the male dominated Hip -Hop industry take notice of female Mc's. Take a look at Hip -hop. It has return to the one female in the click syndrome as seen with the Funky 4 +1 ('81), Juice Crew ('84), BDP ('85) and the Native Tongue ('89). However, the lady's of the 21st century are taking center stage proving that they can hold their own. Meanwhile in the Bahamas Hip -Hop is in it's adolescent stage and is just now developing an identity. Female rappers are scarce and opportunity is limited. However, TAV Entertainment and its Area 51 affiliates are changing the face of the Bahamain Hip -Hop culture.

AFRICA ALLAH This summer the world will be introduced to Africa Allah "Bahamas Finest". Born in Nassau, Bahamas and raised in both New York and Canada this Bahamain native puts Bahamas on the map with her crafty rhymes. The Album "Bahamas Finest" is a declaration of Africa Allah's lyrical skill. On the 1st single 'Influences' she boldly informs her counter parts that she is a veteran in the game. " MYB?/ I been rocking/ before '93/ before you knew about/ direct TV/ MTV/ or BET yall done sparked dis" The Album not only claims the artist's status in the Bahamain Hip -Hop sector, but it also displays the skills of the best producers in the Bahamas. Among them are Brad Gibson, DJ Charlie Brown, Dillion Mckenzie, Dwayne Hyler and Clifford Riley to name a few. "Bahamas Finest" is promised to be just that Bahamas finest exhibit of Hip -Hop talent. So keep your ears to the street!
